For two years, the Virginia operations of mcdowellespinosa architects was in the small town of Scottsville, Virginia - population 566.  The office was positioned as a storefront for architecture at the center of the town. The space was divided to provide a small living quarters in the rear, overlooking Mint Creek, and an open design office in the front, facing Scottsville’s main commercial street—Valley Street.  A custom loft space was installed in the rear space to enable sleeping above and storage below. All construction was installed to be easily disassembled considering the transient nature of commercial storefronts.
